Expanding Opportunity. Shaping the Future.
Teach For Greece is building a new generation of educator-leaders committed to equity and excellence. By ensuring that every child can access the education and support they need, we aim to unlock potential, expand opportunity, and contribute to a better functioning and prosperous society.
The Problem
Greece is emerging from a long financial and sovereign debt crisis that led to deep economic and social disruption. Over the past years, significant reforms have stabilised the economy and supported recovery but gaps in implementation, consistency, and accountability continue to affect how systems function in practice. The effects of the crisis continue to shape the country’s socioeconomic reality — particularly for young people.
1 in 4 children are at risk of poverty
47% of students lack basic maths skills
26.4% of young graduates are NEET*
500K+ left Greece since 2010 and 30K continue leaving each year
*NEET: Not in Education, Employment, Training
What We Do
Teach For Greece works to strengthen education as a foundation for opportunity and long-term societal progress.
In the first phase, we support Greek public schools and the students who face the greatest barriers by placing our fellows — a new generation of educator-leaders committed to excellence and equity — in these schools for two years. Through their work in the classroom and community, they help students build strong foundations, develop critical thinking, and gain the skills needed to progress in education, work, and life. After two years, some alumni continue teaching, while others move into roles across sectors in Greece.
At the same time, our impact extends beyond the classroom. We build partnerships, support schools, and develop a growing network of alumni leaders who continue to work across sectors to expand opportunity and drive long-term change.
Our work begins in schools, but its ambition reaches further: to strengthen the conditions under which education can consistently shape future citizens and contribute to a more equitable and resilient society.
Our Key Players
Our Fellows: A pipeline of leader-educators committed to educational equity and long-term system change, placed in schools for two years.
Our students: Students taught by our Fellows achieve stronger learning outcomes and are supported to realise their full potential
Our Alumni: After two years, Fellows become Alumni — leaders across Greece shaping the systems that impact children.
Why It Matters
The long-term strength of a society depends on whether its education system can consistently translate potential into opportunity. When students build strong foundations and progress through education, they are more likely to access stable employment, contribute productively to the economy, and participate actively in society. When this happens at scale, it strengthens the country’s talent base, reduces structural inequalities, and limits the conditions that drive outward migration.
Teach For Greece contributes to this shift by improving what students experience where it matters most — in the classroom — and by supporting the development of individuals who continue to shape systems over time -our alumni. The result is a more effective pathway from education to opportunity, and a society in which progress is supported by the full potential of its people.
